What’s the 4-1-1?
Starting off 2006 in a great way, In Flames release their 6th studio
album,
'Come Clarity', with their now famous lineup of Anders Fridén
(vocals),
Jesper Strömblad (guitar), Björn Gelotte (guitar), Peter
Iwers (bass), and
Daniel Svensson (drums).
Genre
Melodic death metal / fantasy metal
The Good
Once you hear the opening riff to "Take this Life" ...you know In
Flames
have already matched up to their previous release Soundtrack to Your
Escape. "Leeches" has a beautiful melodic chorus like the one
that can be
found in "Take this Life". "Vacuum" also provides that same
melodic chorus
even though the song is probably the quickest fast paced song on the album. "Crawl Though Knives" is
probably the most melodic song on the entire album. With it's crushing guitar
riffs, very nice drum fills and one amazing
chorus, look for "Crawl Through Knives" to be the next single. The
titled
track "Come Clarity" is on the soft, and somewhat acoustic side. It
provides
for a nice peaceful song. "Dead End" is probably the most unique song
with
guest female vocalist Lisa Miskovsky appearing on it. Her amazing voice
mixed with Anders screams show for an amazing mix.
The Bad
A couple songs seem to follow one another meaning they have a similar
sound. "Reflect the Storm" seems to be a bit TOO melodic and could
just get
a little out there.
The Verdict
You will not be disappointed. On this album In Flames decided to put the
keyboard samples more in the back rather than bringing them upfront like
prior releases, but it still adds
for a cool mix. It includes all the good stuff In Flames are known for, and
even a few surprises here and there.
Did You Know?
Crawl Through Knives was the first chosen name for the album, however, In
Flames changed it to Come Clarity later on.
