What’s the 4-1-1?
Bronx natives change their name from Pinwheel to Crashbox to release their debut album.

Genre
Hard rock / modern rock / power pop

The Good
“Radio” has a catchy chorus and memorable chord progression. “Drown” is an emotionally charged ballad with a decent chorus section. “Any Place but Here” has one of those sing-along sections that are sure to come back to you throughout the day. The heaviest riffs are delivered on “This Girl,” and it’s probably the most melodic track as well.

The Bad
Vocalist Sal Scoca just doesn’t have it. In the immortal words on the American Idol judges, he’s just too “pitchy.” The music is somewhat generic as well.

The Verdict
Core Records pride itself on producing bands the old fashioned way; molding and developing them over a number of years. With Crashbox’s latest disc, it’s obvious the band is at stage one of a long road of development.

Did You Know?
Frontman Sal Scoca grew up on the same street as 50’s-60’s rock icon Dion.

Rating: out of 5
