What’s the 4-1-1?
Underground metal titans All That Remains release their 3rd album.

Genre
Melodic death metal

The Good
"The Calling" opens with a great long scream by vocalist Phil Labonte, and the intensity is backed up by drummer Shannon Lucas as he takes his drumming to a new level with his amazing double bass speed patterns. The song never lets up, even the nice melodic singing parts of the song keep the fire burning strong. The guitar solo is beautiful thing to hear. Everything is precise on it. "The Weak Willed" shows off more skills from Shannon Lucas, as his blast beats will cause you to have a headache afterwards! His blistering double bass speed is very impressive I must say.

"Become the Catalyst" is without a doubt the top song of the album. Everything is played perfectly on this song. The deep growl from Phil at the start really gets you set for the ride ahead in the song and what a ride it is! They take no prisoners in this song and lay it all down on the line. "Empty Inside" begins with some very catchy guitar harmony parts, then comes in the psychotic blast beats. As the song flows through there is a little musical fill part where the drums and guitar blend well together. The solo in this song is most likely one of the best on here.

The Bad
Most of the songs seem to have the same flowing chorus structure. And the melodic baking singing can get really annoying at times, like it doesn't fit, you know? Songs that I am talking about include; "Not Alone", "It Dwells on Me", and "We Stand," just to name a few.

The Verdict
There will be people that love this album, there will be people who hate it. People who love it will love it because it is an amazing and beautifully written album and the haters are going to hate it for the same reason! No matter how much they will say that this album is bad, or sucks...they know the truth, and then truth is that this album is one of the best of the year hands down. Great guitar harmonies, killer vocal mix, overdriven drumming, strong bass lines; Its all here.

Did You Know?
All that Remains played on the huge Sounds of the Underground tour last year. And this year they have earned a spot on the epic Ozzfest tour and even a European version of Sounds of the Underground Tour.

Rating: out of 5
