What’s the 4-1-1?
Post hardcore/metal titans Unearth release their follow up to 2004’s
The Oncoming Storm.
Genre
Metal / Hardcore / Post hardcore
The Good
“Giles” has a strong initiation as the guitar movement is impressive.
The song in general is a top notch song; one of the greatest on the album. “This
Glorious Nightmare” supports the guitar dominance again and without
a doubt has the ‘Unearth feel’ to it. Which means, when you hear
the guitar riff..you KNOW it’s Unearth. The harmonies in this song
are certainly appealing as well. “So it Goes” is possibly the
most melodic on the album. Even the beginning of the song shows that off
with the beautiful sounding guitar melody. This melody and harmony mix continues
everywhere in the song, which is just something I love and it makes this
track amazing. The solo in this song is intense and exciting. “Bled
Dry” has within it some intimidating guitar riffage.
The Bad
Nothing notable
The Verdict
The Oncoming Storm was a grand album. With it being as good
as it was; I didn’t want the new album to be a repeat. I wanted it
to be better. And Unearth have accomplished that. This album is more matured
in a sense, and the melody is greater as well. Weather the listeners think
that The Oncoming Storm is better than this album, or visa-versa,
there is one thing they all can agree on; This album is one fantastic work
of music.
Did You Know?
Unearth played the second stage on Ozzfest 2004. The following year, they
played on the first run of the 2005 Sounds of the Underground Tour. And
to top it all off, this year they took on a headlining slot on the
second stage at Ozzfest.
