The Good
"Belphegor - Hell's Ambassador" starts things off with a bang as
the song quickly rips into hard metal straight from hell! The drum work on
this track is intense, and I mean INTENSE. The blast beats are flawless and
are done perfectly to a tee. I also dig the guitar sound on this song as
it fuses well within the drumming and thankfully doesn't get lost in it. "Chants
for the Devil 1533" embraces some good double bass work with the drums
and is a song to watch for. I enjoyed the guitar on this track as well. There
is just something about it that attracts the listener in to focus on it.
"Seyn
Todt in Schwartz" brandishes some impressive blast beats again at the
start which easily can make this song worth listening to. And you guessed
it. I have to mention something about the guitar! The melody held in this
song is probably the best on the album. It's very smooth and gives the listener
an easy listen without any mistakes or flaws! "Ancient Enemy" shows
off more grand blast beats.
The Bad
The third track "Angel of Retribution" is highly dull in comparison
to all the other songs. It's slowed down and because of that I don’t
think it fits in with everything else. Perhaps if they made it quicker
it could have worked. "Pest Teufel Apokalypse" is an unexciting
song as well. It's tame all throughout it and then the ending is really
stupid I think. These two songs seem to get lost compared to the others.
The Verdict
This album is respectable to me. It's nothing grand, but it's clearly nothing
bad either. All together it is well balanced and a good metal album. I
feel as though the vocals are something that drags the album down since
they are just out there. Though this was a well done album, it won't be
on my playing list constantly. I feel fans of black metal will enjoy this
album with ease; some death metal fans may like it as well.
