What’s the 4-1-1?
Axmen Kelly Hayes (ex-Cold) and Lane Maverick (ex-Otep) leave there
pasts behind and start anew with their latest incarnation. This is
their debut release.
Genre
Hard rock / modern / rock
The Good
The album opens up with the blaring riffs on “Fake.” The heavy guitar
tones give way to more subdued ones as Wally Wood interjects with his melodic
vocals. Don’t get too comfortable with his delivery, because he can really
bring the intensity on the choruses. Subtle, yet piercing effects help “Closer
to Habit” propel to its emotional crescendo. I thought it was ironic how
the monster riffs really cut right through you on “Stitches.” “Tight
Rope” is a perfect example of rock radio today. It mixes a little of the
heavy stuff with a little of the melodic stuff. Allele kick up the tempo for “Lies,” as
Wood vents about being betrayed. There’s a bonus instrumental track courtesy
of Kelly Hayes, which differs slightly from the rest of the album in sound,
but is still quite enjoyable.
The Bad
Not the greatest lyricists.
The Verdict
Point of Origin is the album that Cold should have made.
