What’s the 4-1-1?
The third saga in the Saw movie series produces another soundtrack.
Genre
Metal / rock
The Good
The album erupts with the furious blasting of "This Calling" (All
that Remains) that never backs down! This track was definitely a good choice
for opener of the album, as the long scream from Phillip Labonte will easily
make an impact on the listener. Slayer show up soon with their contribution "Eyes
of the Insane"; this song fits well with the theme of the soundtrack/movie,
and the song gives off an ominous feel. "Walk with Me in Hell" (Lamb
of God) is without a doubt the best song on here. The melodic guitar, blistering
drums, and amazing vocals make this song one bad mamma jamma. Disturbed plays
a good part in this with their song "Guarded" appearing on here.
I would say it was a good choice; the other songs off the new album might
have not fit as well as this one. Mastodon get their appearance on here as
well as they show off "The Wolf is Loose", a blistering fast paced
track that never quits and will drag the listener into a swirl of head banging!
The Bad
Well if you thought this soundtrack would be all good, then you were wrong.
The Static-X song ("No Submission") is really boring and will
take away the intensity of the album that the first song gives off. Now
we have a string of bad stuff here from: Avenged Sevenfold, Eighteen
Visions, and Bullet for my Valentine. The songs picked out for these
bands easily stand out and don't fit with the rest of the heavy stuff
on this album. Perhaps if they picked other songs, it could have been
different.
The Verdict
Most soundtracks now totally suck. This one however, even though it has bad
stuff, is one of the best I have heard. Slayer, Lamb of God, Mastodon..that
should be enough reason to get it! If you are a metal fan than this is
a soundtrack for you. It has a lot of different styles throughout it, but
it is one kick ass album!
Did You Know?
The film has been dedicated to Gregg Hoffman, producer of the first two movies.
Hoffman died on December 4, 2005, shortly after the official Lionsgate
announcement of Saw III.
