What's the 4-1-1?
Boston four piece releases their debut.
Genre
Pop rock
The Good
There’s a message at the core of “All I Need” and it’s
simple; you don’t need fancy and expensive things when you can have
the one you love. You’ll immediately notice that the group has a great
sense of melody and delivery. I really dug the nod to Tango & Cash plus
Axl and Slash. “Many Miles” compares relationships to a road
trip. The track has a nice steady bounce to it, as a scenic drive would.
Acoustic strumming and heartfelt lyrics set the tone on “I Want You
to Stay.” “Far From Home” employs a seventies pop rock
feel with soft tones and dual vocal harmonies. Having been a product of the
eighties, hearing “Malloy” instantly brought back my crush on
Family Ties star Justine Bateman. The song is sweet and tender, but most
likely not about her.
The Bad
Nothing notable
The Verdict
Though all of the harmonies and acoustic based progressions, it’s really
the multi-part vocals and well-written lyrics that help The Brightwings shine.
Did You know?
The group’s name came from an episode of The Wonder Years. No wonder
they speak to the eighties kid in me.
