The Good
Uncle Ted breaks out the blusey-est hard rock riff for “Love Grenade.” The
hook is just as captivating. “Still Raising Hell” comes at you
like Nugent tracking down his prey in the wild. High energy rhythms mix with
the over-the-top persona that is Ted Nugent. “Journey to the Center
of the Mind” has some surprising vocal melodies going on throughout.
Nugent channels his inner Native American on the upbeat “Geronimo & Me,” the
instrumental “Eagle Brother,” and the mellow “Spirit of
the Buffalo.”
The Bad
“Funk U” has a killer rhythms section but is clearly a lame
attempt at being controversial. Obviously Ted you’re trying to say
fu** you. It took me soooo long to figure that out. How dare you (sarcasm).
Speaking of lame, Nugent composed an entire song about “Girl Scout
Cookies.” It would be great if it was a metaphor for something else,
but no, it’s about the actually cookies. WTF?
The Verdict
Ted Nugent is still a crazy wildman pumping out blues-infused music on Love
Grenade. Some songs are duds, but most are explosive (as the title
suggests).
Did You Know?
Ted Nugent has abstained from drug & alcohol throughout his career.
