The Good
It’s will come readily apparent, even to the casual listener, that
Fogerty has gone back to his roots on this latest album. It only takes the
first few twangy tones of “Don’t You Wish it was True” to
figure it out. The lyrics are a great commentary on how we should all get
along. Fogerty cries out for a hero on “Gunslinger.” “Creedence
Song” has all the fever and swing that you expect from Fogerty as a
solo artist or in his former band life.
John delivers his more of his bluesy
soulful vocals on “Long Dark Night.” What spices up a bluesy
tune like some great harmonica and killer guitar soloing? “Summer of
Love” recalls the ‘make love not war era’ Fogerty grew
up in, and is by far the best track on the album. “It Ain’t Right” echoes
the sounds of “Traveling Band.” “I Can’t Take It
No More” takes John’s energy to a whole new level. It seems with
each new track Fogerty is getting more and more passionate about his lyrical
content.
The Bad
Nothing
The Verdict
John Fogerty is back with all of the energy, bluesy-ness, and political commentary
that he debuted with so many years ago. It’s funny how even 40+ years
later he can still write about the same issues, and their still relevant
today.
