This is a very cool concept for a CD, if you ask me. Take
a bunch of punk bands and give them popular crunk songs to cover and let
them rip. For one thing, the genres are more similar than they may seem on
the surface. Punk is usually highly uptempo music and, while often lyrically
simplistic, often carries a message. Crunk is highly uptempo music which
is often infused with poetry straight from the streets (simplistic lyrics
about dancing and fucking), often conveying a message. So, put the two together
and you've got two unlikely elements fusing together to make one hell of
a fun comp album.
Filled with bands from the Fearless label (natch as it's
the same label releasing this comp) you get a feel for their strengths
but not too much as it's not like they are doing their own songs, just covers
of popular crunk hits. Though kind of disposable and not really groundbreaking
to say the least, this is an interesting way to introduce listeners to
a
bunch of punk bands and is a fun listen.
