The Good
"Ashes" comes on strong with furious riffage and thunderous drums.
Ivan Moody's vocals are bloody-thirsty and sometimes melodic. It helps fuel
the intensity
of the lyrics. The album's title track is just as intense, with the duel
guitar attack of Zoltan Bathory and Darrell Roberts leading the way. "The
Bleeding" is sure to throw some off with it's tranquil and clean guitar
introduction. More guitars are added to help build-up the power that's
sure to come. Moody delivers that energy with a commanding yell, but falls
back into a tortured and subdued delivery. His anger cannot be contained
for long though. "The Devil's Own" is a great mix of ferociousness
and melody. From its rapid-fire muted riffs to its driving drum beats, "White
Knuckles" is pure metal. There's a little bit of the old school mixed
with the new school here. "Death Before Dishonor" is full of
rage, anger, and guitar mayhem.
The Bad
Nothing notable
The Verdict
Five Finger Death Punch come out of the gate and prove that they are no joke
on their debut effort. The Way of the Fist is chock-full of intensity,
power, rage, and all of the other traits you expect in a killer heavy
metal album. Certainly not an album for the weak hearted.
