By Derek Carey
(resident hardcore metal head)

#10.) BEFORE THE DAWN

The Ghost

#9.) THE HAUNTED

The Dead Eye

What attracted me to this album was the song "The Medication." The hook in the chorus is so catchy and that’s what this album is. Catchy. Every track is easily unique in its own way and will give the listener nothing of the same. I am still wondering why EVERY track begins with "The" though!

#8.) SCAR SYMMETRY

Pitch Black Progress

#7.) UNEARTH

III: In the Eyes of Fire

#6.) TRIVIUM

The Crusade

This was one of the albums that I couldn't wait for this year. The guitar work on it is very real and unique on some parts, and Matt Heafy's new vocal technique really blends well with the new material. Though I do think the lyrical work is a little boring on most songs.

#5.) DRAGONFORCE

Inhuman Rampage

#4.) STONE SOUR

Come What (ever) May

The thing I love about this album is the diversity within it. You have your fast and brutal songs, you’re slowed down songs that still maintain the edge, and then you have two songs that are shocking! "Through Glass" and "Zzyzx Rd." are both the softest songs on the album, with their nice slowed pace and even acoustic guitar ("Through Glass") and piano ("Zzyzx Rd."). It makes for one great listen.

#3.) IN FLAMES
Come Clarity

#2.) SLAYER

Christ Illusion

#1.) LAMB OF GOD

Sacrament

What really impressed me about this album was the improved vocal work from Randy Blythe. It is simply amazing to hear and he is sure to silence all the critics out there now!
