1. If I knew absolutely nothing about ISM, how would
you describe the group’s music to me?
-- ism’s music is an intelligent and soaring
blend of rock and electronic music into a new sound of its own. Bits of
Radiohead, U2, Depeche Mode, Muse
and later day Nine Inch Nails. Like the end of the world on a sunny day.
2. When and where did the band form and where did the name ISM come from?
-- The band comes from NYC and name comes from a rock
found in Central Park. We received a message as to the rock’s location
and were to go find it.
3. If I were to buy your latest album Monkey Underneath (read
CD review), what songs should I pay particular attention to and why?
-- We have strong reasons to why you should listen to each song, but if you
had to, we would recommend:
1) “Beside the Sun” – the song is sleek and rockin’
2) “Breathe” – because it’s majestic
3) “Monkey Underneath” because it’s the lyrical center
point of the album and one of the most electronic sounds
4.
What’s with
all of the monkey imagery on your album, website, and press materials?
-- To us, the monkey represents the primal and
animal elements in us all and calls into question the relationship between
the animal and the
technological
aspects of our modern world. And they’re cute. Especially them
ones with the hairless asses.
5. What was your worst on stage experience? What
was your best?
-- Best experience: Leigh (bassist) hurting himself
by jumping off a 10’ stage
in front of 5000 audience members in Athens, Greece.
Worst experience #1:
Having to play shows for the next week when Leigh should have been
medicated in a wheel chair. He was medicated, but not in a wheel
chair.
Worst experience #2: As we’re responding to these questions, we’re
stuck in Ohio because our van caught on fire (touring in U.S.).
