What’s the 4-1-1?
News Of The World's claim to fame was, obviously, the medley of
"We Will Rock You" and "We Are The Champions." Just when you thought it
was impossible
for the band to create another song of the same popularity level of "Bohemian
Rhapsody," they created a song that would go onto be more popular than
they ever could have imagined. It's hard to go to a sporting event and
not hear
this song! Apart from that masterpiece, the album more than has its fair
share of underrated stuff. Once again, the band creates an album that covers
all the bases - and them some. "Sheer Heart Attack," written by Roger Taylor,
is one of the band's best and most straightforward hard rock tunes.
Taylor
also serves up another good rocker in the form of the underrated "Fight
From The Inside." "Sleeping On The Sidewalk" shows off Brian May's musical
diversity, featuring him playing a classic blues rock-style number, and
"It's Late" is another one of his solid, more traditional rockers. John
Deacon serves up TWO songs on this album! From him we get the slow and
melodic
"Spread Your Wings," and the upbeat, poppy "Who Needs You." And who could
forget Freddie Mercury's slow and gritty tune, "Get Down Make Love?"
With all these
excellent songs and many more, it's a gem of an album. The album has
no noteworthy flaws.
The Verdict
Queen knew how to rock and roll - and how to do it right. The band
was diverse, pleasing a number of audiences with their diverse musical
stylings. And perhaps no album demonstrates that as well as News
Of The World. Definitely one of the strongest albums in the
band's catalogue.
