What’s the 4-1-1?
This is the album people know and love Queen for, and appropriately so.
Everything one could ever want from a Queen album, this album has. It is
most notable for containing Freddie Mercury's classic opera-based pop rocker,
"Bohemian Rhapsody." And, of course, the fun doesn't stop there. You've
got the hard stuff, the soft stuff, and everything in between on this record.
The other big hit was John Deacon's classic pop-rocker, "You're My Best
Friend." And who could forget the classic Roger Taylor rocker, "I'm In
Love With My Car?" It's arguably his most memorable composition.
There's
also
a plethora of underrated tracks, including Freddie Mercury's hard rocker
"Death On Two Legs," the acoustic "Thirty-Nine," and the Beatles-esque
"Good Company." The band's own take on the classic British anthem "God Save
The
Queen" gave them the track that would become a frequently-used concert
closer. From start to finish, every song on this album is a jewel.
Really, there isn't a whole lot wrong with this album. It's a little
overrated in comparison to some of the band's other albums, but that's hardly
a flaw.
The Verdict
This is Queen's quintessential classic album, and the album that turned
them into the classic rock legends we now know and love them as.
It's a masterpiece of an album, and words can't do it justice. If
you were only to buy a single Queen album, this would be the one
to get.
Did You Know?
When it was released back in 1975, this was the most expensive album ever recorded.
The production cost exceeded one million dollars - a phenomenal sum of money
in that day and age. But as any classic rock fan will tell you, it's money
well spent.
