The Good
The songs on Kevin Dubrow’s first solo album are a good indication
of what his life is all about: rock and roll music; such as the bluesy “Good
Rocking Tonight” (Montrose) and the high speed “Modern Times
Rock ‘n Roll” (Queen), and having a good time; such as the high
energy “Razamanaz” (Nazareth) and the straight-up “Gonna
Have a Good Time (The Easy Beats). Let’s not forget about the women
though. “Drivin’ Sister” (Mott The Hoople) is an ode to
fast women, “Red Light Mama, Red Hot” (Humble Pie) pays homage
to big girls wrapped up in tight clothing, and “Stay With Me” (The
Faces) is about being a slave to love. Typically, B-side tracks deep and
too obscure for the mainstream, but “Black Sheep of the Family” (Quatermass)
and “Rolling with My Baby” (Silverhead) could have easily been
hits on rock radio; even today.
The Bad
Nothing
The Verdict
In For the Kill is such an obscure collection of cover songs, that it may
as well be all new songs from Kevin Dubrow. The songs are a little more
stripped down than the ones Dubrow did with Quiet Riot, but that have plenty
of catchy hooks and melodies. Even thought the majority of songs are from
the seventies, they never sound dated. Kevin still emotes the same cock-sure
vocal delivery that he did with Quiet Riot.
