The Good
You know what you're getting when Motorhead releases a new disc; Heavy f**kin'
metal! Bludgeoning driving riffs, bass lines, and drums overpower "Terminal
Show". Don't look for meaning on this one; I think Lemmy just looked
for words that rhymed. There are more heavy pounding rhythms on "Killers" and "Smiling
Like a Killer". The former is about killers in the King's army, and
the latter being about a psychopath. Motorhead open up "In the Name
of Tragedy" with a riff similar to something their arch enemies W.A.S.P.
would use (how appropriate; W.A.S.P. & tragedy) That’s where
the similarities stop! I can imagine this one as radio single.
"Suicide" is loaded with meaty riffs and a layered chorus that
is as close to harmonized that Motorhead is going to get. "Life's a
Bitch" is charged by a bluesy repetitive lick, while a rapid-fire chugga-chugga
riff sustains “Down on Me”. The frantically paced "Fight" doesn't
have a lot of words, but the words Lemmy does use; he uses them a lot. The
closing track "Whorehouse Blues" is a full on blues number; acoustic
chord progression, harmonica, and distant, echoey vocals.
The Bad
Where's WWE's "Evolution Theme"?
Bottom Line
Let's face it, Lemmy IS God! You know that when Motorhead releases a new
album you're getting the same thing that you got on the last one, but who
cares?! You're getting a true heavy metal album no matter what! If it ain't
broke, don't fix it.
Did you know?
Guitar virtuoso Steve Vai appears on “Terminal Show” and “Down
