What’s the 4-1-1?
The latest album by the Berlin-based duo.
Genre
Pop-rock / bubble-gum rock / dance
The Good
“Tales of Ordinary Sadness” is commanded by a fuzzy bend-heavy lick.
From there the electronic percussion takes over. The up-tempo guitar heavy “Shag
Ball” and drum effects heavy “Pop It” employ lots of sexual
innuendo to try and draw you in. Surf guitar licks run rampant on “Jet
Set Boy”. “Car Bomb Derby” is a wild ride with its frantic
pacing.
The Bad
In my opinion there are two major problems here. One problem is that despite
the guitar laden tracks, the songs are more dance oriented due to programming
effects (similar to your old Atari 2600). The second is that that the vocals
are very whiney and annoying at times. Picture Kelly Osbourne meets Courtney
Love. I still don’t know if this duo is serious or trying to be comical.
The Verdict
Although pleasing to the eye, Electrocute is agonizing to the ears. There
are a few decent songs, but after about half the album, you’ll be
ready to throw it out the window.
Did You Know?
Electrocute members Nicole Morier and Mia Von Matt are the only performers in
the group.
