WELCOME TO ROCK IS LIFE!
by George Dionne
Rock is Life, but most rock fans already know that. Rock music makes you
feel alive! It can bring out such a broad range of emotions. It can be about
having a good time and not worrying about your responsibilities, it can
be about anger and frustration, or it can be a ‘macho’ way to
express our feelings of love; to cite a few.
My name is George Dionne. I am the editor-in-chief here at Rock-Is-Life.
You may remember me from my two year stint as a contributor at RockRage.
Rock-Is-Life is my new online rock magazine. Whereas RockRage catered to
the hard rock community, Rock is Life expands upon the genre. Rock-Is-Life
covers all facets of rock; hard rock, soft rock, melodic rock, modern rock,
punk, alternative, pop-rock, and much, much more.
If you’re prone to one style of rock music, perhaps Rock-Is-Life can
expose you to another that might peak your interest. For years I was a hard
rock and metal fan. I wouldn’t listen to anything else. I eventually
got to a point where I was getting bored with it. After searching around
I discovered melodic rock. It’s been dead in the U.S. for years, but
it’s huge in Europe. I was instantly hooked. Then I got a few CDs from
punk rock bands, a style I never really cared for. After listening for a
bit, I found myself wanting more.
Please take a look around, I know you’ll like what you see. As you
can see, Rock-Is-Life features live concert photos, CD reviews, press releases,
multimedia, giveaways, concert dates and more.
I hope that the writing style is enjoyable and easy to follow. I can’t
stand it when ‘legitimate’ rock magazines print CD reviews that:
1. Only mention a song or two
2. Print exactly what’s on the press release that came with it
3. Use words that no one uses in their daily lives in a normal conversation
When was the last time you said to someone about U2’s latest album:
This is grandiose music from grandiose men, sweatlessly confident in the
execution of their duties (Sheffield--RollingStone.com, 2004)?
I hate to single out a specific source, but I had to cite them due to copyright
laws. Here’s what I said about the U2 CD: Another classic U2 album!
Plenty of catchy rhythms and thought-provoking lyrics. Of course writing
in this manner tends to lead me to using some of the same words and phrases
from time to time, but I do my best to avoid that.
When it comes to interviews, I try to ask questions that a fan would want
to know the answers to. Sometimes I'll ask the fans to contirbute themselves.
Who better to ask questions? All of the artists I’ve
spoken with were more than happy to answer any question, even the tough ones.
There
was
one
time
where someone wasn’t pleased with a tough question or two. In my defense,
his fans would have definitely wanted to know the answers to them. Just like
you, I am a fan of rock music. I try to write from a fan’s point of
view.
So take some time and click around Rock-Is-Life. There’s plenty of
rock material to choose from. I’m always open to your feedback. Thanks
for stopping by, and I hope to see you again.
"Rock is Life…embrace Life!"
Sincerely,
George Dionne
